Build An Online Business Around The Life You Want
I’ve been thinking a lot about what it really takes to build a successful online business (or any successful business, really). I’m not talking about successful as in just the money, but successful to you! You see, we all have our own version of what success means so it only makes sense to build your online business around your definition of success.
I was spending some time this morning reflecting on everything I learned and observed over the weekend on my trip to Tulsa, Oklahoma to visit Thrive15. I was blown away with the way they do things in their business and how much stuff they get done.
While I was there though, I was thinking about you and your business. Here’s what I mean.
One of the things I love most about the work I do is helping big mission entrepreneurs (Missionpreneurs) create online businesses they love, that don’t require sacrificing the things most important to them like their faith, family, fun, friendships and especially finances!
So I was thinking about how close you are to building a custom business designed around the life you want. You may be far from that right now, but rest assured, there’s still time to change your direction.
It may sound impossible, but believe me it’s totally possible when you know what you want.
You have the power to create your online business on your own terms!
As I write this post, I’m having iced coffee in my home office having just returned to my desk from watching my son at the bus stop head to his last week of school. It’s what I do every morning.
As a matter of fact, he expects to look up at the window and see his dad there with a hand sign we made up to say “I love you” from a distance.
(We did make it up to say I love you, but it turns out it’s a pretty popular sign. Do you know where it’s from?)
While he waits for the bus, he sneaks the hand sign in somehow and I do it from the window. It’s just what we do so he knows he’s loved every morning before school.
Why does this matter?
Because I decided years ago that the business I build has to give me the freedom to be an active and engaged father. It’s one of my core values.
And it’s having these core values that serves as a filter on how I run and grow my business. If an opportunity comes that may be lucrative but violates my core values, it’s an easy no.
[Tweet “There’s plenty of great opportunities when you decide to turn down simply good opportunities”]
I stick to my core values because they are a reminder of why I’m in business in the first place.
See, our business is simply a means to an end. It’s not the end itself!
Said another way, our business is the vehicle to get us to a certain destination or end point (our BIG WHY).
What does the perfect online business look like to you?
When we let the vehicle get in the way of the destination, that’s where we end up having a business we despise or resent.
But as I mentioned earlier, you can quickly fix that.
You simply have to re-engage with your WHY (where you’re trying to go and the reasons for doing it), follow the street signs (your core values), and set your GPS (business roadmap) to get you exactly where you want to go.
Sure, it takes time but it’s totally worth it.
And as you make the shift, give yourself grace. It’s so easy to judge and compare but that doesn’t serve you.
It took a while to get where you are right now. It’s gonna take a little time to get yourself back on course. The good news is, you’re getting back on course!
I’m excited about hearing the shifts you’re making.
One last thing before you go back to building your personalized online business…
Before I finish this post and go back to my coffee, I wanted to invite you to something new I’m doing because I truly want to help you win in life and business.
I created a Facebook group called Fampreneur Freedom Tribe. It’s not for every business owner out there. It’s specifically a community for entrepreneurs who want to grow a profitable AND purposeful business.
Yes, it’s about making money. Yes, it’s about growing your business.
However, it’s also about creating a business that allows you to give back and serve!
If that’s something you’re excited about, then come on over. It’s brand spanking new so as I send this email out, there’s literally no one there yet (which is pretty awesome because you’ll get the most attention up front as it grows over time).
Check it out at https://www.facebook.com/groups/fampreneurtribe/.
It’s totally free. Come in, the water is warm!
