3 Step Goal Getting Formula To Get Quick Results
Can you believe we’re already 3 weeks into the second quarter of the year?
As the year started, we set big goals and committed to accomplishing big things.
The moment April 1st hit, I knew it was time to reflect on what I’ve done the first 3 months of the year and make adjustments to the goals I set that I either didn’t hit or no longer mattered.
Some of those goals had to do with my family. Others had to do with health. A lot of them had to do with business.
On the health side of things, I’ve been in pain for most of the year from a pinched nerve and my wife had to step in and tell me, let’s stretch and start jogging.
Of course, it’s more comfortable not to do what I know would change things, but that simple adjustment has already helped the pain tremendously.
It takes a new perspective to set new goals which lead to a new result.
Let’s get back to business for a moment.
If you’re like most entrepreneurs and leaders I speak to, you’ve done some great things already and have no doubt completed some of your goals but know there’s more to be done.
Actually, there’s greater results you’ve been wanting to experience in your life.
Don’t worry, we all experience that.
It’s part of the growth process.
With that in mind, I wanted to share my 3 step goal getting formula to move beyond the pain and get quick results in your life and business.
1. Know The Outcome You Want
This seems like a no brainer but in order to get what you want, you have to know what you want. Even more important is to define exactly what you want. It changes the power and focus you put towards achieving that thing.
You can say, “I want more customers” or you can declare “I want 3 new high paying clients in the next 30 days”.
Your goal may be “I want to spend more time with my kids” but you’ll supercharge that intention by saying “I’m committed to spending every Saturday morning at the park with my kids”.
The first examples are so general that you can’t possibly plan around them effectively. The second however are tangible and allow you to focus in on getting what you really want.
2. Clearly Identify How You Can Attain It.
Now that you’ve set your outcome, spend 10 minutes figuring out how you can get there. Even the busiest people in the world have 10 minutes to plan goals that are important to them.
Just block out 10 minutes, turn everything off, and begin brainstorming on paper how to make it work.
We often don’t follow through on things that will help us improve our lives and businesses because we don’t have a clear plan to follow. Don’t just jot down what you will do but also what you aren’t willing to do to make it happen.When are you going to schedule 10 minutes to change your life?
3. F.O.C.U.S. – Follow One Course Until Successful
You know what you want. You have a plan to get it. Now go, move, take action and make it happen.
Don’t let up until it’s done.
It doesn’t have to be perfect, but it has to be acted upon.
If you have to make slight adjustments, don’t beat yourself up about it.
Just keep going until it’s done.The biggest lesson I can share with you about this is that the results is always at the completion of a thing, never at the start of a thing.
For the second quarter of this year, let’s create a new habit of completion. Let’s forget the many times we’ve started things and not followed through.
